Ever since I was about 6 years old and witnessed my older sister Emily go through beauty school, I knew I wanted to be a cosmetologist. I even knew I wanted to work at Tantrum Hair Salon and assist Mack Fenn. As I graduated high school it started to become more serious for me to decide where I was going to go for my cosmetology education.
A week before I graduated high school I started working as the receptionist at Tantrum.
These are my sisters and all but three of these lovely ladies have worked as a receptionist at Tantrum. What can I say… WE LOVE TANTRUM!!! Since my family has been a part of Tantrum for so long I think of the workers at Tantrum as family members as well, and trust they would give me good advice. So, after working there about 6 months I started getting a lot of their input on which beauty school I should attend. I got advice on if I should stay in state or leave, and input on all the schools in the valley. I ended up wanting to go tour Kohler Academy (since I graduated it has been renamed to Penrose Academy) located in Scottsdale, and Empire Beauty School located in the Chandler Gilbert area. I ended up touring Kohler first and fell absolutely in love with it. I was accepted into their program at the beginning of November of 2010 and started school on March 10th, 2011.

Attending Kohler Academy required a lot of discipline. I would work Monday- Wednesday at Tantrum, and then go to school Thursday- Saturday for 11 hours a day. The 45min drive got old really fast, and I was tired all the time. It was so worth it though because I knew at the end of my 1600 hours I would be doing what I wanted to do.
At Kohler I was able to work with the Bumble and Bumble line. It is the only school other than the actual Bumble school that lets students learn on this line. We learned all of Bumble’s styling secrets and cutting techniques. I loved the education I received at the Academy, but they also did lots of extra “get-involved” type activities. I was voted to be a part of the school’s student council. There was also a group that would allow the students to leave the sc
hool and do hair and makeup for fashion shows, or go and talk about the academy to high schools.
I was able to participate in a photo shoot for the school which was way fun!!!!
Now that I have been out of beauty school since February 2012…
And licensed since March….
I am glad I went to beauty school, but I am so so happy I am done!! There is no way to describe the experience, you just have to experience it!
I am so thankful for the friendships I made at beauty school as well!
I most definitely would not have been able to make it through the beauty school drama without my friends!! And I am now lucky enough to work with two of the girls at Tantrum I met from school.
If I could go back and do it again, I would have gone to beauty school during high school just to get started on the actual career part faster.
But I am happy to be where I am at now for sure at Tantrum. We have so much fun together…
… even if we should
Thank you Mack!!!!!!!!!!!!
